Packaging EPR is now an invoice
The policy debate is over; the cost arrives as an invoice with a due date. The first obligation period ran from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026, with first invoices in October 2025 and a 50-day payment window. A producer that treated packaging EPR as a future concern now has a cash-flow line to manage.
Budget the fee per unit and per material, not as an annual surprise. The invoice is based on packaging data, so the same material record used for LUCID and the PPWR supports the UK calculation.
Budget it per unit
Convert the annual invoice into a per-unit cost using the packaging weight and material for each SKU. That number belongs in the landed cost next to freight and duty, because it scales with volume and does not disappear when sales fall.
Check the thresholds and the material categories before assuming you are outside the scheme. A product with a small unit but heavy outer packaging can cross a threshold that the product itself would not.
