Supplier, launch and expansion decisions · Match the query, then convert
Listing SEO
A listing ranks when it matches the query and converts the click. Keyword stuffing does neither.
Key facts
| Query match | The title, bullets and backend terms should cover the phrases buyers actually use |
|---|---|
| Title | Lead with the product and the primary use case; avoid a keyword pile |
| Bullets | Answer the buying questions: size, material, compatibility, use and care |
| Backend terms | Use the fields for synonyms and misspellings that do not fit naturally in the copy |
| Conversion | Price, images, reviews and delivery promise affect rank through behaviour |
| Official source | The marketplace listing style guide and the search-term report |
Match the query, then convert
Ranking starts with relevance: the listing must contain the phrases buyers use. It continues with conversion: the click must become a sale, or the rank fades. SEO that ignores conversion produces traffic that does not stick.
Build the keyword set from the search-term report and the marketplace suggestions, then group by intent. A phrase that describes the product belongs in the title or bullets; a synonym belongs in the backend terms. Do not repeat the same phrase in every field.
Write for the buyer, not the crawler
The title should identify the product, the size or quantity and the primary use. The bullets should answer the questions that cause returns: dimensions, material, compatibility, what is in the box and how to care for it. That structure helps the buyer and the index.
Images carry a large share of the conversion. The main image must meet the marketplace requirements, and the supporting images should show scale, use and detail. A listing with strong copy and weak images loses the sale after winning the click.
Frequently asked questions
How many keywords should I use?
Cover the important phrases naturally, then use the backend fields for synonyms. There is no benefit to repeating a phrase or stuffing unrelated terms.
Do backend keywords affect rank?
They help match queries that do not fit naturally in the visible copy. The effect depends on the marketplace and the category.
Should I change the title often?
Change it when you have a specific hypothesis and enough data to compare. Frequent changes reset the learning and make the result unreadable.
Do reviews affect ranking?
They affect conversion and can affect eligibility. The direct ranking relationship varies by marketplace and category.
