Removal order
Removal is a cost decision: return to you, dispose, or liquidate. Compare the fee with the value of the unit.
Key facts
| Options | Return to an address, or dispose in the fulfilment network |
|---|---|
| Fee basis | Charged per unit and varies by size tier and destination |
| Timing | Orders are processed in batches; the inventory leaves the sellable pool when the order is created |
| Alternative | Liquidate, bundle, or sell through another channel before the removal date |
| Tax and freight | Returned inventory may need onward freight and can affect import records |

Removal is a cost decision
The question is not whether the unit has value; it is whether the value exceeds the removal fee, the onward freight, the storage saved and the cash released. A slow SKU that costs a dollar a month to store can still be cheaper to remove than to hold for a year.
Compare three paths: removal to your warehouse, disposal, and a discount that clears the unit inside FBA. The discount path keeps the review history and the listing, which may matter more than the last few dollars of margin.
When to remove versus liquidate
Remove when the unit has resale value in another channel or when the storage fee and aged surcharge exceed the resale margin. Dispose when the unit is unsellable or the return freight exceeds its value. Liquidate when a bulk buyer will take the lot without you touching it.
Create the removal order before the aged-inventory surcharge tier changes. The fee is charged on the age at the time of the event, and a week of delay can move a batch into a more expensive band.
Frequently asked questions
Can removed inventory be returned to FBA later?
Yes, if it is still sellable and within the restock rules. It will be treated as a new shipment and must meet the current requirements.
How long does a removal take?
Processing is batched and can take weeks. The inventory leaves the sellable pool when the order is created, so plan the gap.
Who pays the freight from the fulfilment centre?
The removal fee covers the outbound process; onward freight to your final address is your cost unless the destination is included in the service.
Is disposal always cheaper?
It has a lower fee but destroys the remaining value. Compare it with the net recovery from returning or liquidating.
