Amazon storage fee calculator
Enter the units in stock, the cubic feet per unit, the months held and the monthly and long-term rates. The calculator splits the volume between the two rates and returns the monthly charge, the total over the holding period, per-unit and annualised figures.
Rates and the long-term share are inputs, not a fee schedule; confirm the current storage rates, size tier and season in the marketplace's own documentation before budgeting.
How the monthly storage split works
The calculator charges the share you enter at the long-term rate and the remainder at the monthly rate. If the long-term share is 0%, every unit is billed at the monthly rate for the whole holding period. If it is 30%, 30% of the cubic volume is billed at the long-term rate and 70% at the monthly rate.
This is a planning simplification. Real long-term storage usually applies only to units held beyond a defined age threshold, and the charge is calculated on the units that cross it. A single average share across the whole plan will not match a unit-level ledger when stock arrives in several batches.
From a monthly charge to a holding cost
Monthly storage fee is the recurring charge for one month at the current mix. Total storage cost multiplies that figure by the number of months and adds the placement fee once. The placement fee is not recurring: it covers the inbound placement service and should not be multiplied by the holding period.
Per-unit and per-unit-month outputs divide the totals by the unit count. They are useful when comparing products of different size, because a large, slow-selling item can look cheap per cubic foot and expensive per unit sold. Annualised cost extrapolates the same monthly run rate to twelve months; use it only if the inventory mix stays unchanged.
What the estimate excludes
The model covers storage and an optional placement charge only. It does not include inbound freight, customs duty, removal or disposal fees, return processing, insurance, or any minimum monthly charge that a marketplace may apply. Aged-inventory surcharges, if they apply, are separate from both rates used here.
It also does not decide the size tier or the storage category of a product; those depend on the marketplace's measurement rules and on the season. Use the result as a budget line, then replace the rates with the current published schedule and check a few units against the fee preview before committing to a quantity.
Frequently asked questions
What counts as long-term storage?
The threshold is set by the marketplace, and units usually become long-term only after a defined age. Enter the share of volume you expect to cross that threshold, not the share of months in the plan.
Is the placement fee charged every month?
No. It is treated as a one-off charge and added after the monthly fee is multiplied by the holding period. If your invoice spreads it differently, enter the amount you expect to pay once.
Why is annualised cost higher than the total?
Annualised cost extrapolates the same monthly run rate to twelve months. It is not a forecast of next year's stock; it assumes units, volume and the rate mix stay unchanged.
Does this replace the fee preview in Seller Central?
No. The preview uses the marketplace's own measurements and current rates. This calculator is a planning estimate, and the two can differ when size tiers, seasons or age thresholds change.
