US Import Duty Calculator
Enter the goods value, freight and the duty rate for your HTS code. The calculator applies duty from the first dollar and returns the landed cost and per-unit cost.
The $800 de minimis is suspended
The long-standing $800 exemption is suspended for all countries. A low-value parcel that would once have entered duty-free now needs an entry and a duty calculation, and the carrier or broker usually charges a handling fee on top.
For a seller, the practical consequence is that the landed cost of a $12 item and a $120 item both include a customs step. Price lists built on the old assumption understate the cost of every US shipment, and the error is largest on the cheapest products.
The rate comes from the HTS code
Duty rates come from the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and depend on the product, not on the seller's country alone. Additional tariffs can apply to specific origins and product lines, and they change by notice rather than by legislation, so the rate should be checked against the current HTS and Federal Register entry before a price is committed.
The calculator does not guess a rate. Enter the one that applies to your code and origin, and add any additional duty as part of the same percentage.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a duty-free threshold for US imports?
No. The $800 de minimis is suspended for all countries, so duty applies from the first dollar. Check the current Federal Register notices for scope and exclusions.
Does the US charge import VAT?
No. There is no federal VAT. Sales tax is set by states and collected at the point of sale, often by the marketplace under facilitator laws.
Do I need a customs bond?
Formal entries above the low-value limit generally require a bond, and carriers or brokers often arrange one. The requirement depends on the entry type, so confirm with your broker.
