Registration is free; participation is not
LUCID registration costs nothing and is done online, but registration alone does not make the packaging compliant. The producer also has to contract a dual system for household packaging and report the volumes it puts on the market.
Marketplaces check the LUCID number before allowing a listing. A number with no system participation behind it is a visible gap.
Foreign sellers need a local anchor
Sellers based outside Germany can register directly, but an authorised representative is required in certain cases. The representative does not replace the producer's own registration and reporting duty.
Budget for both the licence fee and the representation service. The licence fee is weight-based and varies by material and provider, so request a quote with your actual annual volumes.
Frequently asked questions
Is LUCID registration enough to sell on Amazon.de?
No. The marketplace usually checks both the LUCID number and evidence of dual-system participation. Register, contract a system and keep the licence evidence ready.
Do I need a German company to register?
No. A foreign business can register, but it may need an authorised representative. The registration itself remains the producer's obligation.
What happens if I miss the volume report?
The report is tied to the licence and the registration. Missing or late reporting can lead to fines and to a mismatch between licensed and actual volumes.
