Returns reduction
Returns are a product and listing signal. Sizing, photos, packaging and expectations decide most of them.

Fix the cause, not the fee
A returns processing fee is a symptom. The cause is usually a mismatch between what the buyer expected and what arrived: the size, the colour, the material, the quantity or the condition. Reducing the mismatch lowers the rate and the fee together.
Start with the reason codes by SKU. A single size running small is a sizing-chart problem, not a general quality problem. A colour that photographs differently is a lighting problem. Group the returns before changing anything.
Set expectations in the listing
The listing is the contract with the buyer. Dimensions, material, care, compatibility and what is in the box should be explicit. A short bullet that omits a limitation saves a line and creates a return.
Packaging protects the product through the last mile. A fragile item in a thin mailer arrives damaged and becomes a return even when the listing was perfect. Test the packed unit with a drop or a distribution simulation for high-value goods.
Frequently asked questions
What is a normal return rate?
It varies by category and marketplace. Compare your SKU with your own history and the category, not with a universal benchmark.
How do I reduce apparel returns?
Accurate size charts, model measurements, fit notes and photos on different body types. Sizing is the dominant reason in apparel.
Can I refuse a return?
The marketplace policy defines the buyer's rights and the seller's options. Refusing a valid return can affect account health.
What do I do with returned inventory?
Inspect it, resell it as used or open-box where allowed, liquidate it, or dispose. The recovery route is part of the return cost.
