Customs charges are separate from freight
An express quote covers transport and DHL's services, not necessarily duty and import tax. The Incoterm and the account settings decide who pays those charges. A recipient who refuses the duty bill can create a return or abandonment.
For DDP shipments, make sure the duty and tax account is set up correctly before the parcel moves. Otherwise the carrier may advance the charges and bill a fee.
Remote and optional services add up
Remote-area surcharges, optional insurance and signature services can change the delivered cost. Check the destination postcode against the carrier's list before quoting.
DHL's network is strong for international express, but it is not always the cheapest option for low-value parcels. Compare the total delivered cost, not just the transport rate.
Frequently asked questions
Does DHL Express include duty and tax?
Usually not. The freight quote covers transport and services; duty and import tax are separate unless the terms and account setup say otherwise.
