Listing suppression

Suppression is usually a missing attribute or a policy flag, not a ranking penalty. How to detect it and recover without guessing.

Key facts

What it meansThe ASIN still exists and can be viewed by direct link, but it is excluded from search and browse results
Common causeMissing or invalid required attributes, main image problems, restricted words, price errors or an expired approval
DetectionSearch the exact title or ASIN while logged out, or use the listing quality dashboard
RecoveryFix the flagged attribute in the listing editor, then open a case with the specific error if it persists
Do not doDelete and recreate the ASIN; that discards reviews, rank history and inventory association

Suppression is usually an attribute problem

Amazon suppresses a listing when it cannot confidently surface it: a required attribute is empty, the main image breaks the image policy, the title contains a restricted claim, or the price is far outside the recent range. The listing page may still look fine to you because it renders the content you submitted, not the index state.

Check the listing quality dashboard before assuming a ranking problem. A sudden traffic drop with impressions near zero is suppression; a gradual decline with impressions intact is ranking or competition.

How to verify and recover

Verify with a logged-out search for the exact ASIN or a distinctive phrase from the title. If it does not appear, capture the result and the date. Then open the listing editor and walk every required field, including the ones you did not touch.

If the attribute is valid and the listing stays suppressed, open a case with the ASIN, the marketplace, the search evidence and the fields you checked. Recreating the ASIN is the expensive mistake: it resets reviews and makes the same data problem likely to recur.

Frequently asked questions

Is suppression the same as being out of stock?

No. Out-of-stock listings can still rank and reappear when inventory returns. A suppressed listing is excluded from search even with inventory available.

Does suppression affect my account health?

Suppression itself is a listing-level issue. Repeated policy violations behind it can affect account health, which is why the cause matters more than the label.

How long does reinstatement take?

Attribute fixes often take effect within hours to a day. Cases can take longer, and the ASIN remains suppressed until the specific flag is cleared.

Can I keep advertising a suppressed listing?

Ads may still serve in some placements, but the landing experience is broken for search shoppers. Pause spend until the listing is indexed.
