ACoS, TACoS and the break-even line

ACoS divides spend by ad-attributed revenue. TACoS divides the same spend by total revenue, including organic. A product with strong organic demand can carry a higher ACoS and still look healthy on TACoS; a launch product can look acceptable on ACoS and frightening on TACoS because almost all sales are paid.

Break-even ACoS is your contribution margin before ads. Spend above it buys growth at a loss; spend below it funds profit. The calculator reports the difference between your ACoS and that line so the decision is visible.

What the profit line includes

The profit-after-ads figure uses the margin you enter, which should already include product cost, fulfilment, referral fees, returns and overhead. It is not a substitute for a full P&L, and it does not include fixed costs that do not scale with sales.

Use it to compare campaigns and launch windows, not to file a tax return. If the margin input is optimistic, every output is optimistic; check it against the FBA fee calculator and your landed cost.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good TACoS?

There is no universal number. Mature products often target a lower TACoS than launches. Compare your TACoS with your contribution margin and the growth you are buying.

Why is my ACoS below break-even but my profit still low?

The margin input may be missing fixed costs or returns, or total revenue may be small. Check the full fee stack and the return rate.

Does TACoS include organic sales?

Yes. That is the difference from ACoS: TACoS measures ad spend against the whole business.

Can I use this for other marketplaces?

Yes, if you enter the local-currency numbers consistently. The ratios are currency-independent.
